Does it not disturb people to sign a paper saying, "I VOLUNTARILY AGREE TO AN INSPECTION," when there is a consequence of getting fined if you don't "VOLUNTEER"? Scary! Nothing voluntary about that. Sounds like blackmail.

I think people are missing the Nazi point here: Volunteer or you will face consequences (a fine) and WE (the government) will still do what we want. Freakin' SCARY!!!!!!

Bottom line: extorting money out of landlords. Why isn't the current Code Enforcement taking care of this supposed problem of substandard rental conditions?

Okay, maybe I'm an idiot and don't know the "secret" way to hook up this new digital tv crap, but it's not working. I bought the converter box and a special antenna but still not getting ANYTHING. I live in a rural area and I was excited to get the switch because of the promise of "a clearer signal." Well, I got nothing. Now I'm hearing about people putting $200 antennas on their roofs to get a little reception.

RANT: This is a bunch of crap!!!!! The one channel I had is now gone! Guess I should just get satellite TV now along with my "screw me in the a**" satellite internet connection with download thresholds and sometimes spotty quality. What a JOKE!!! This sux!!! Maybe I should move back into the city. HAHA, Heck NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Side note: got a good deal on two $20 car covers at Costco today!

Since I can't come up with things to post I think I'm going to just start posting things that I fix. :)

Starting with our 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and its lighting problem. The interior lights were flickering on and off randomly. I thought it was the headlight switch so I took it all apart and cleaned it up. Didn't fix the problem. So I started checking the door switches. It ended up being the rear window hatch switch. I was going to buy a new switch, but after a few tests I found that the switch wasn't really bad, the bracket just needed a little adjusting. So I pulled out my handy Channel Lock pliers!!!!! The bracket pinched together a small bit and now I have a nice connection when the window is closed. Problem solved.

Some Cadets told me, "I'll take CS gas 10 times before I take OC (pepper) spray again." So I didn't think that the gas would be as bad as OC spray. WELL, it's about the same, just on a different level. The ONLY nice part is that the effects wear off in about 5 minutes instead of 5 hours like the OC spray. Imagine yourself being drowned in 400 degree water. You can't breathe and your skin feels like it's on fire! The suffocating part was the worst part though. I couldn't believe that as soon as I stepped into the gas I immediately began gasping for air and nothing would come in. We had a few cadets pass out and a few dive out of the building (but then they had to go through again). I just hope I never have to do that again.

"CS was discovered by two Americans, Ben Carson and Roger Staughton, in 1928, and the chemical gets its name from the first letters of the scientists' surnames.[4] It was developed and tested secretly at Porton Down in Wiltshire, England, in the 1950s and 1960s. CS was used first on animals, then subsequently on British Army servicemen volunteers. Notably, CS has a limited effect on animals due to "under-developed tear-ducts and protection by fur".

"On contact with the gas the victim rapidly develops a severe burning discomfort and pronounced lacrimation. Blepharospasm and conjunctival oedema may occur. When inhaled, the gas irritates the nose, mouth, upper airways, and lungs. Profuse secretion provoked by contact combined with the filtering mechanism in the upper respiratory tract strains off the larger particles. Locally, the gas causes rhinorrhoea, nasal congestion, and irritation. If inhaled, particularly in a confined space, it can cause sore throat, coughing, bronchorrhoea, bronchospasm in asthmatic patients, pneumonia, and even apnoea. It is particularly dangerous in people with pulmonary diseases.
As well as its peculiar odour, CS gas has a disgusting, burning, acidic taste. If the saliva containing CS gas is swallowed nausea and vomiting may follow. On the skin the gas produces a tingling sensation and can cause erythema and blistering. The symptoms, however, are generally short lived."

OC Spray day, got Sprayed in the face then had to do 20 push-ups then run across the grass and find the water hose.

Can you say PAIN. We did! and then we said, "WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER!!!!!!" I'm looking a lot better in this picture than I did right after it happened. Hopefully I'll never have to do that again.

Oleoresin Capsicum

In the early 1980’s Zarc International, Inc. introduced a proprietary “capsicum pepper technology” to be used as a safe and effective non-lethal weapon by military and law enforcement. “Capsicums” are chili peppers which occur in many varieties that range from mild to hot. Capsicum encompasses twenty species and some 300 different varieties of pepper plants. “Oleoresin” is the industrial extraction of the dried ripe fruits of capsicums and contains a complex mixture of highly potent organic compounds.

Inflammation of Mucous Membranes

Natural Oleoresin extract of Capsicum contains Capsaicin which causes the irritation of the trigeminal cells. These cells are pain receptors located in the mouth, nose, stomach and the mucous membrane. They release Substance P (SP), a chemical messenger that communicates any pain or skin inflammation to the brain.

SP is a neurotransmitter. Neurotransmitters are inter-cellular chemical messengers that are secreted by neurons (nerve cells) across specialized structures (synapses) to transmit chemical information to one or more target cells.

Capsaicin as an irritant compound present in CAP-STUN induces neurogenic inflammation upon local application. In recent years this agent has been used extensively in research on primary sensory neurons because of its selective action on a population of C-fibre afferent and possibly also on an A-delta fibre type. Capsaicin stimulation of sensory nerves not only produces central transmission of sensory signals but also releases SP from central and peripheral sensory nerve terminals.

Substance P (SP) belongs to the Tachykinin family, which represents a group of biologically active peptides with a similar sequence of amino acids in the C-terminal region. SP was the first peptide of the tachykinin family to be found in mammals.

Substance P Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2

The natural release of SP is therefore likely to represent a direct action on postcapillary venules or smooth muscle cells. Both capsaicinoids and SP act as Spasmogens on certain viscera containing smooth muscle causing contractions. Substance P is one of the key causes of total incapacity effects causing contraction of the oesophagus, trachea, respiratory track and iris muscles of the eyes.

Got my third gig on Monday for not erasing my name off the staff office board. Then my fourth gig on Friday during a uniform inspection. Kinda lame, I had simichrome polish on my leather. It's hard to polish the brass buttons and not get that stuff on the leather, and then it's hard to get off once it gets on there :( Friday morning PT was interesting. Started as a normal run until our instructor noticed that the sprinklers were on......so we ran through the sprinklers for about 10 minutes.......then he lined us up in the middle of a cluster of sprinklers and had us do about 30 jumping jacks......then get down in the push up position and roll right and left in the soaking grass. A few guys were on top of the sprinklers and they got REALLY soaked. It was very motivating! Then we thought it was over, but the instructor had us run our full 2+mile run. We survived :)

Celebrating my last day of work. Today I said goodbye to my co-workers that I've been around for the last 5 years. Kinda sad to leave them behind. Pretty much all of them are good people and I wish they could all break through the barrier that holds people at that company. I guess it just suits some people though.

The anticipation of Calif. State "Summer Camp" is killing me. I haven't had nightmares like I would before doing a route that I didn't know at my current/last job, but my heart beats hard every time I think about Monday; a bit of excitement, a bit of fear, and a bit of pride. I just can't wait for all my questions to be answered and my curiosity to be satisfied. Let's get it ON, AND GET IT OVER WITH!!!

If you only want around 500 hp I’ve been told by 2 machinists that the crack doesn’t need to be fixed. This motor was making around 1000 hp and was in a dragster. Bore is 50 over with plenty of meat left. Will need machine work. Casting number 14015445. $150

We got a couch from some friends so we needed to get rid of our futon. We decided to just put it in our front yard and label it "free" since we get so much traffic on our street. The funny part was that after about 20 minutes or less some lameo pulled up, opened his trunk, threw the futon pad in, closed his trunk, and drove away.....!!!! We were very disappointed because we thought that we were now stuck with a futon frame that no one would want. Oh well, we just laughed because he got a very flat, used futon pad. After about another 20 minutes a lady walked by and decided she'd try to take the frame down a few houses to her daughters house. She couldn't move it. So I carried it down for her. So we now have a couch to comfortably sit on :) END OF STORY

Dipstick Drama!

So the dipstick on my transmission in the '71 Nova has leaked since put the TH400 in it a couple years ago. So I've single-handedly been driving up oil prices by purchasing massive amounts of tranny fluid to keep it topped off and out of harms way via overheating. This weekend I took on the task of changing what I thought was a cracked O-ring. Sounds simple, but it requires dropping the trans to get the dipstick tube out because of the nice curve it has. Got everything down and out quickly on Saturday and went to purchase the new tube. After hours of trying to finagle the new tube in I discovered that I must completely take the trans out, not just lower it. Then I discovered that the tube didn't fit by snapping it in two while trying to force it into trans. Broken $20 tube and no fix..... So I grabbed a new O-ring and put it on the old tube to throw it back in......I put it in, tipped the trans. sideways to see if it leaked and discovered that the old tube had a nice crack in it. So it had been leaking from a crack not from the O-ring. Well, I sulked around for a bit on the verge of crying and it dawned on me that I had 2 other different tranny's in the garage. I found the tube for one of them and it happened to be an exact match, although not nearly as beautiful, it is functional.........now to get it all back together again.....Lets go Humpty Dumpty.

X-mas, the "worst" time of year! :( Hopefully some day I'll have a job that doesn't make me feel that way, but until then I'm just so glad the rush at FedEx is over. Time to get in a few things that happened recently..... Most memorable, Dad's 60th Bday. Sister S. set up a nice "treasure hunt" around Santana Row in San Jose. We went to several stores and let them know that Bob was there and he was given a gift card at each store, then the card would tell us what store to go to next where there would be another gift certificate and another place to go to. Somehow we hit the Cohiba store twice :) Here's a few pics:

I am hunting for pistons! I'm looking for the best price on JE custom pistons. They have a sportsman line known as SRP. The machinest told me to get part number 142995 by SRP. The best price I've found is about $517 for all 8. Nice that it's cheaper than the $700 JE pistons that I was looking at :)

Yup, just playing Home Alone this weekend. Regina and Isaiah have headed up to Tahoe to camp with some friends. I had planned to go, but was informed last minute that FedEx is having a management class on Saturday. So, to do the proper thing I stayed home to do something for our future. It would be great to get into management with FedEx for a period of time so that I could have that on my resume since FedEx has a lot of good things going for them and you learn a lot really fast as an Ops Manager for them. The perk this weekend is that I get to play paintball on Sunday :) Other than that, it was lonely coming home to an empty house with 2 nutty dogs. (where are they anyway?)

Yeah, so. I've been busy and haven't had anything exciting to share, and Regina keeps hogging the camera to take pics of Isaiah. Actually there is something exciting to share, James and Lynsey had their baby Emma (Lynsey had her, James watched). HUGE Congrats!!!

Snowboard season ended in what seemed like record time :( I didn't get in as much boarding as I'd planned, but I did get to go to Northstar and I'm extremely impressed. Looking forward to going there next year.

Isaiah is at 18 lbs. now and wearing 12 month old clothes even though he's only 3 months old.

Here's what happened: Jerod and I had been cruising off some sweet jumps and having a blast for about an hour and a half (Here's a video of me jumping And Jerod Jumping). So, I went down next to a jump to take some pictures of Jerod coming over and getting air. On his descent he got a little off balance and the nose of his board caught the snow causing him to rollish forward and land on his shoulder with his 200+ pounds of meat. The result was a separated ACL (I think that's what it's called). There are 3 ligaments holding the bones together and 2 have been torn. The good thing is that one stayed; except it is the one that doctors have no idea why it's on our body as it serves no function! I told Jerod God put it there so our arms don't just fall of if we tear the other two ligaments. Anyways, here's the sequence of pics of the jump and the fall that resulted in his injury. OH, on the plus side he feared that surgery was going to be needed but the surgeon said that around 90% of these injuries heal on their own.

2 trips to go before I pay off the season pass. The weather was interesting. Ugly blizzard for 30 minutes then sunny for 30 minutes off and on all day. Marketing is an amazing thing these days... this is right up there with Tony Stewart's sweaty towel.

Elizabeth Arden announced last week in Daytona Beach that the company would make a new fragrance called 'Daytona 500.' The fragrance maker describes the scent as opening "with top notes of yuzu, bergamot and mandarin. Heart notes include tarragon, sage, maté and a watery accord, while the base comprises nutmeg, cardamom, amber and sandalwood." We're not exactly sure what all of that smells like, but if it isn't burning rubber and cheap beer, well...

The packaging is interesting in and of itself -- the top is shaped like a wheel wrapped in a thin rubber tire.

Thanks everyone for the loving words and support. We're having a blast and learning a lot. We had a tuff night on Friday, but Saturday night and last night were great. Isaiah is spending awake time without crying which is nice...he just acts soooo cute now. We got a little 3 min vid of him on the bed. Sorry that the video is so dark, but as you can see he's still alive :) File size is approx. 5MB so it'll take forever if you use dial-up. We'll try and get a vid in better light.

I finally got time to post the pics that we took at the birth and in the hospital. All is well. Regina is doing great and Isaiah is eating, pooping, peeing, screaming, and being cute. He is very strong and they thought he might have been over due because of his skin texture at birth. There was no white filmy stuff on his skin and he was able to hold his head up immediately. He's healthy and we're happy.

SNOWBOARDING TRIP 2

Finally, a month later I made it up to go snowboarding again. On our way in there wasn't much snow on the ground, but on the way out there was plenty. The day started out clear and a little bit sunny then changed to overcast then snowed from 1pm on. By mid-day I couldn't see the snow in front of me and I kept falling. Very frustrating and now I'm sore. It was very cold too....10 degrees at the peak 20ish at the base. Because of the cold my camera battery wouldn't work, and neither would my MP3 player. They both just kept telling me that my batteries were dead and then they would shut off. Once the got warmed up on the way home everything worked fine. You can see a few pics at Flickr.

As if we needed another one. Well, we do. We needed a family vehicle so we picked up a '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has a 4.0 Liter straight six, power everything, 4x4, all the options. It's a sweet ride and we're gonna beat it up with a kid :) Here's some pics.

Jerod and I tried to go snowboarding at Heavenly on Monday but it was snowing too hard and traffic was bad so it took us three and a half hours to get there. So we just got my season pass, watched a movie, played in the snow, ate, played in the snow, and went home. Here is me with my pass:

Whew, he was ugly. I don't even want to post a pic of him. Sam is dead, but I'm sure that some other rat looking, pimpled, hairless, toothless, odd colored dog is out there to take his place. Sam's fans wanted the him stuffed and put into the Smithsonian Museum, but instead he's been cremated and his remains are in a wooden box next to 5 of the owners other deceased dogs.

Interesting. Now lets all shed a tear for Sam.

This is just a stupid post because I have nothing interesting to post. So I just thought I'd make a quick reflection on life. Here it is: Life throws curveballs and it drives me nuts!

I make this statement in the face of a hopeful comfortable future that disappeared. Now I feel as though I'm a bullet in the shotgun of college and I'm about to be blown out into the real world without being able to see out the end of the barrel because I'm wrapped in this cocoon of a shotgun casing. I know I will look back at this one day and laugh, but right now it just isn't funny.

AAAAAAND there's my depressing post for the year. I really am a happy person and I'm truly excited to be in the position that I'm in. (now am I sounding bi-polar?)

WOW this is amazing. Turbo Tap is a tap that "pours" beer in under 2 seconds without major foaming problems. What a great invention! Check out the videos.
It looks like it's just an extended pour spout that forces the beer evenly into the bottom of the glass instead of allowing the beer to pour to the bottom and foam.
